Pas de Chat
In ballet, a Pas de Chat is a cat-like leaping step which moves sideways, with the dancer leaping off one foot and landing on the other.
"This is very much an analogy for making the step to create art for a living. It is a leap of faith. Not knowing where you will land or how the ground will be when you land--you must leap with great force and all the strength and focus you possess, and hope you land on firm ground.
I have had many bad landings over the years. I have learned not to be afraid, but to move forward and keep working. To see and feel the color in your dreams and make a point to create it. To let your memory and imagination lead you in both new and old directions.
These pieces are about color, form and movement. There is a transition in my work that has occurred from the Organic Vessels to Vortices to this new and evolving series: Pas de Chat. In them I can see the evolution of an idea, and my intuitive response as an artist. It is a true blessing to have such an opportunity."
